The Immigration Legal Assistance Project provides, for a nominal fee, legal assistance and counseling to all categories of low income persons. The Project also does “adjustment of status” and other filings for the private immigration bar. The Project uses its limited resources to:

  • provide immigration legal advice for U.S. Citizens, immigrants, and aliens
  • preparation of immigration & Naturalization forms
  • translation, certification, notarization and copying of documents
  • tie-in lawyer referral service and all appropriate social service agencies

What kinds of legal help can I receive?
The Immigration Legal Assistance Project provides advice and consultation on immigration law, and can help you prepare various immigration forms, including, but not limited to:

  1. Adjustment of status

  7. translations of Spanish language documents

Where is the immigration and naturalization service located?
The INS is located at 300 North Los Angeles Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Their main information room is 1001. You may obtain all INS immigration forms at this room or you may order by telephone. The telephone number is 800-870-3676. For further information on INS services, you may contact them at their web cite at www.usdoj.gov/ins.

What is the attorney filing service and how does it work?
Presently the Los Angeles Immigration Legal Assistance Project charges an attorney filing fee of $30.00 per “adjustment of status” and advance paroles are an additional $30.00. Adjustment of status applications are filed on Mondays and Thursdays, although a limited number can be filed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Advance paroles are filed daily. All fees collected go to fund the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s legal services projects, such as, immigration, battered women, people with HIV, and the homeless.

How do I contact the Immigration Legal Assistance Project?
Our office does not give legal information over the telephone. You must come in person. We charge $20.00 for a consultation and nominal fees for other immigration applications. No appointment is necessary. We are a walk-in clinic. Please bring in all immigration forms and documents which you may have. Our office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. We are not open on Saturday, Sunday or any Federal holiday. Our telephone number is (213) 485-1872.
